Storytelling details
We invite you to tell a true story from your own life on the theme of nurturing. What has nurturing meant to you as a child, parent, or grandparent? How did you learn to nurture your family, community, planet, or yourself? When have you experienced the most joy or struggle as a caregiver? We want to honor all of the ups and downs of nurturing in its many forms — all stories are welcome.
Anyone who is interested in telling a story can submit their name during the event. We will randomly draw names to select our storytellers for the afternoon.
A few guidelines to follow if you plan to tell a story:
Tell the truth! The story must be true, yours, and told from your own perspective.
Keep your story under five minutes. There will be a musical cue when it is time to wrap up. The time goes quickly!
Talk about a time when… We’re looking for a specific moment in your life. Share details and zoom in on one experience. What did you see, hear, feel? What changed?
Respect others. We welcome stories on difficult topics but please warn our listeners ahead of time if you plan to talk about something that may be triggering. We will ask storytellers who are not respecting others to leave the stage.
We hope this will be a powerful, connective, and memorable way to spend your Mother’s Day with friends or family. Please keep in mind that some stories may be PG-13 and not appropriate for children. If you have any questions about the storytelling aspect of the event or want to discuss your story ahead of time (optional) please reach out to Alex Birch at alexraebirch@gmail.com.
