Osamequin Farm Stories:
A Self-Guided Audio Tour

Our self-guided walking tour explores the interconnected histories of the land and people at Osamequin Farm.

On the tour, you’ll hear from friends and neighbors who have spent time at Osamequin Farm in past decades, the farmers and community partners involved here today, members of the Pokanoket tribe, and naturalists and ecologists with insight into the landscape.

HOW TO EXPERIENCE THE TOUR:

You can walk the tour in person on the farm on any Saturday, or listen at home by clicking through here on the website.
.
If you’re walking the tour, going straight through all 10 stops takes about 1 hour 15 minutes and covers about 1 mile—but you can choose to make your way through however feels best for you. You’ll use your smartphone to navigate through the tour. Headphones are recommended!
Park at the Farm Stand and look for the “Start Here” banner.

Visitors, please keep in mind:

  • We are a working farm - for everyone’s safety, please stick to established trails and walkways.

  • This space is home to four families, three horses, a donkey, sheep, and many cats and dogs. Please respect the privacy and space of those who live here by sticking to the tour route!

  • As you walk through the fields and forest, remain aware of your surroundings. Look out for poison ivy, watch for uneven or slippery surfaces (like ice or mud), and check yourself for ticks when you get home.

  • Many of the fences on the farm are electric: please do not touch them!

  • Please do not bring your pets on this tour (or to the farm). You may run in to some of ours while you’re here. They are friendly!

  • There is a seasonal portable restroom available near the greenhouse.

for little ones:

This tour is designed for adults and older youth. Little ones with shorter attention spans might struggle to stay fully engaged—so if you’re visiting with young kids, we recommend checking out the Osamequin Farm Scavenger Hunt, which can be found in the Farm Stand! The Scavenger Hunt can help keep our younger visitors entertained and exploring the landscape while you learn about its story alongside them.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Seekonk Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

A note from the narrator

Hi! My name is Jordan Schmolka, and I compiled this tour as Osamequin Farm’s 2021-2022 TerraCorps service member—interviewing community members, researching the property, and collecting stories to share. It was an incredible gift to get to see this place through the eyes of so many people who know it so well and love it so much. I’m so grateful to every person who shared their stories with me, and I’m so excited to share those stories with you.

This tour is only the first iteration of what we envision as an ongoing, evolving project, so stay tuned! And, if you feel moved, consider making your own contribution to this community resource. After the last stop, you’ll have the opportunity to share: a memory or experience of this place, something you know or want others to know, an invitation for reflection….your voice is part of this story, too.

Thank you so much to Alex Birch for project guidance and Kevin O’Connell for audio editing and sound design support!
