Join Katama Murray to explore with natural patterns and mindful making through this hands-on workshop focused on cyanotypes!
This class will explore the basics of cyanotype printing techniques with fabric and paper to create a series of prints and cotton fabric patches.
Participants will capture shadows through cyanotype printing, utilizing seasonally foraged plants of the region as well as everyday objects to print with. Join us to experiment with this cameraless photographic printmaking process as a way to connect to the season and objects around us, helping to capture elements of time, place, history, and meaning through unique prints.
All materials are provided, and participants may bring their own objects to print with as well.
Open to adults & youth (ages under 14 must be accompanied by an adult).
No experience with any techniques are necessary to join, and all are welcome!
About the artist
Katama Murray (she/her) is an eco artist, educator, naturalist, and small business owner from the coastal town of Blue Hill, Maine. Inspired by the rhythms of nature and our interconnectedness with the environment, her work layers printmaking and fiber processes using local, mindfully foraged natural materials. She holds a BFA in Printmaking from Plymouth State University and an MFA in Printmaking from Indiana University Bloomington, and has taught workshops and exhibited work throughout New England and beyond.
Since starting Teach Peace Prints in 2020, Katama has created handmade paper and fiber goods that are sewn, naturally dyed, and printed by hand. Her seasonal, place-based collections include fabric pouches, bandanas, reusable napkins, pillows, prints, and creative supplies for fellow makers. Through workshops and events, she shares slow, multidisciplinary making practices with people of all ages, hoping to inspire deeper connection to the earth through the power of art.
