All that's on the horizon
Members Only Quarterly Newsletter — 2026 Q1
Our crew - Gracie, Grace, Dane, and Gabe - picking daffodils to bring home on the first day they bloomed!
Hello, friends!
My intention for this Q1 newsletter was to reflect on all that happened during the first three months of the year — but the warm weather this week has me looking straight ahead to the future and loathe to look back!
I hope the springtime energy is serving you well in your lives. Here on the farm, we are energized, heartened by the longer daylight hours, charmed by the peepers and turtles and ducks who have made their presence known, and most importantly, eager to dig in to the seasons ahead when we’ll host you all on the farm with more regularity.
The late winter and transition into spring is what I refer to as list season. We were living in list mode for weeks and weeks, with headers like “BUY / FIND / MAKE” and “follow up with“ and “garden dreams” and “don’t forget!” Now that the weather has turned and the crew is back to their regular schedules, we’re finally able to move projects along, get our fingers into the soil, and see our intentions come to life.
In addition to the many traditions we’ve established and maintain at Osamequin Farm, such as the spring art show, the summer field brunch, the natural dye party, the harvest party, and holiday wreathing, we’re always eager to try a few new things and see how they feel.
Read on for a little insight into the new ideas we’re trialing in 2026. And please, let us know what you think! We’re all ears.
Warmly,
Sarah Newkirk
Founding Director
A concert in “the big field”
We’ve been talking about hosting outdoor concerts on the farm since the very beginning, so we were thrilled when Dave of The Good Neighbours approached us about collaborating on a Beltane season concert. The Good Neighbours hosts off-grid concerts and events in unexpected places, like a Providence cemetery, or conservation land that requires a mile hike to get to, and now - Osamequin Farm!
Mayfire Sessions is being held on the same day as our Community Art Show, May 2, so you can come make a day of it. The concert with be accompanied by beer trucks, food vendors, tin type photography, tarot readings, and more fun in the field.
Very family friendly, so we hope to see you there!
Osamequin Presents
If you’re following us on social media or reading our regular email blasts, you’re probably well aware that we are kicking off a new series with Victoria Wyeth’s visit this spring.
The Osamequin Presents series is a new venture for us that we hope will help broaden the audience who comes to experience Osamequin. The series will invite speakers from a wide range of expertise: visual art, agriculture, land stewardship, culinary arts, history, ecology, and more.
We’re excited to explore the many layered connections between the land and these topics.
We expect to host at least one more speaker in 2026, and more in the future. If you have an idea of a guest speaker who may be a good fit, please let us know!
Firefly Hike
There is nothing quite like the experience of standing in a meadow surrounded by the flashes of fireflies in early summer. It’s an experience I cherish from my own childhood, and one that I feel incredibly fortunate to get to share with my own children living at Osamequin Farm.
We want to share this moment with you and so we are hosting our first ever firefly hike — with s’mores, of course. We’ll walk through the firefly-filled-fields together and then enjoy s’mores and a “sleepy firefly hunt” for the kids. Coming in June!
Blueberry Pancakes
I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that the best part of Family Campout each year is the pancake breakfast we enjoy on Sunday morning.
After several years of sharing giant buttermilk pancakes filled with blueberries straight from the field with kids and their parents, we’re finally making plans to make this feast an experience anyone can enjoy — no camping necessary!
In late July we’ll host a pancake breakfast and trust me, you do not want to miss this!
Gardening with my grandfriends
Hosting multigenerational programs is a perpetual goal of ours, so we are proud to introduce a new way to spend time at Osamequin this year — gardening with my grandfriends! Young people and their grandfriends (grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, neighbor, friend!) will be invited to participate in a simple guided activity and enjoy the garden together. We all have so much to learn from each other.
